Dave Knox – Question Time

 

  1. Name? Dave Knox
  2. Role at Club? Goalkeeping Coach
  3. Playing Background? – I started off playing Junior football in the Tayside area. I played in the Reserve League in the early 1970s with Forfar, there was a reserve league at the time however unfortunately it no longer exists.
  4. Talk about your coaching career? – I did my coaching courses in Aberdeen, I did a bit of coaching with Dundee United and Montrose, I did the first team at Montrose as well as the youth development. I then did a bit of coaching with a person up here in Aberdeen and we had 27 goalies from ages 12-18. I then joined Allan Smith here at Aberdeen and this is my 2nd season and the first time that I have worked with girls and I am very impressed with the standard.

In your coaching career to date, has there been any highlights? – A young lad called Ryan Booth from Inverurie joined us at the goalkeeper academy when he was 8 and he is now on professional forms with the Tannadice club and has been with them for 4 seasons now. Ryan has also played Under 17s level with Scotland. In addition, the girls here at Aberdeen. It’s good to see players getting picked for Scotland.
  6. What makes a goalkeeper different? – I think a goalkeeper is a specialist position, it’s a position that depends a great deal on confidence, if a goalkeeper makes a mistake it often results in conceding a goal. Concentration has to be really key.
  7. Are you part of the goalkeeping union? – Yes I am.
  8. Who is the biggest jokers at the club? – Hannah Stewart and Donna Paterson
  9. Favourite Food? – Italian
  10. Favourite Football Team? – Dundee FC, I don’t get the opportunity to watch a lot of mens football now due to being involved with the girls however I do like to check how Aberdeen are getting on.
  11. Favourite Band/Music Genre? – I’m rewinding back to a band called Small Faces.
  12. Best game you have either played or coached in? – It was at the Old Muirton (Now McDiarmid Park home of St Johnstone FC) it was some stadium.
  13. Any nicknames? – No
