Aberdeen Football Club Ladies are delighted to learn the news that four players have been selected for the Scotland Under 19s squad. Goalkeeper Becky Flaherty, defender Donna Paterson, midfielder Shannon McGregor and striker Lauren Gordon have been chosen to represent the National Team.
Midfielder Beth McPherson and goalkeeper Emily Mutch who both play for Aberdeen Under 20s have also been called up by Scotland to the Under 17s squad.
Aberdeen Ladies head coach Stefan Laird expressed his delight at the news by saying “We are absolutely delighted for all six players, Donna and Becky have already been in the Scotland squad at 19s level and it’s the first time Shannon and Lauren have been called up to the 19s squad, Shannon and Lauren are only 16. Their inclusion into the squad shows the progress they are making and all these players are looking to cement a place in the starting line-up for the first team.
“In my opinion having worked with Shannon and Lauren since they were 14 they are two of the best young talents in the country and we look forward to continuing that progression on the training pitch.
“Shannon and Lauren have been with the club since primary school age and have progressed through the youth academy and under 20s, they are both home grown players and have a bright future in the game and look forward to them both progressing even more at Aberdeen.
“Beth we are delighted she has been chosen for the first time in the Scotland Under 17s squad, we persuaded to sign her from Westdyke a year ago and the call up demonstrates the progression she is making, the hard work is only starting for Beth with the aim of breaking into the first team after under 20s.
“Emily has made huge strives since joining the club and is now beginning to show everyone what we already know, that she is one of the best goalies in the country. We are delighted for both players and look forward to watching them thrive at international level.”
AFCL congratulates all these players on their selections into the respective Scotland squads and hope they represent the club with distinction.
